Home Grown, is a new Athena Media radio series for RTÉ Radio’s Today with Pat Kenny show.
The series, produced by Ella McSweeney focuses on traditions in food and farming in Ireland, from raw milk to native Dexter cattle, fresh blood pudding to blacksmithing, each programme features people around Ireland who are keeping traditional skills alive. Ella will be going around the country meeting people who keep traditional skills alive.
We’d love to hear from listeners about their traditions in food and farming around Ireland. Do you remember your great granny's recipe for curing bacon, making cheese or elderflower cordial? Do you celebrate Fraughan Sunday? Do you remember the annual killing of the farm pig, or the visit from the local blacksmith? What family recipes do you hold dear today? Are you farming livestock in urban areas?
