New radio project for RTÉ Lyric fm

Athena Media begins production on a new one year radio project for RTÉ Lyric fm in April 2010. The project, An Opera for Carlow, is to follow the story of a community based music project led by conductor Fergus Sheil where the professional music team will work with the people of Carlow to create, perform and stage a new opera at Carlow's new arts centre Visual.
The project is supported by the BAI Sound and Vision Scheme and will create regular radio features for RTÉ Lyric fm's In Tempo programme as well as a full one hour radio documentary at the conclusion of the project. The Athena Media team will record the final performance on April 28th and 29th next year at Visual.
The professional team behind the project include composer Brian Irvine and librettist Peter Morgan Barnes. The first feature about the project will be broadcast on RTÉ Lyric fm in late June and will be available as a podcast via RTÉ and Podcasting Ireland.
