Athena Media's radio series Urban Beauty, Urban Blight has just finished its broadcast on Newstalk 106, airing in March-April 2009.
'Urban Beauty, Urban Blight' is a four part series which takes a look at some of Ireland's leading cities. We hear stories about the cities and the lives of the people who live in them.
The first programme in the series focuses on Dublin where 40% of the country’s population lives. Builder and developer Mick Wallace, city planner Dick Gleeson, Docklands born singer Shaz Oye and Dublin footballer Collie Moran explain what they love and hate about the city.
Throughout the series we hear from individuals like planning expert Conor Skehan and architect Joan O Connor about what makes cities tick. We hear from financial guru Eddie Hobbs and broadcaster John Creedon from Cork, comedian Jon Kenny and local arts journalist Mary Coll from Limerick and Leo Moran of the Saw Doctors and former Minister Michael D Higgins about the famous city of Galway.
